Rajasthan Royals? skipper, Rahul Dravid, expressed shock and disappointment after three Rajasthan players, including S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, were arrested for their alleged involvement in a spot-fixing incident on Thursday. Dravid said it was a tough day for him and his team.
The trio was arrested by the Delhi police on May 16, 2013 for indulging in spot fixing in three IPL fixtures this season.
"I am shocked by the arrests but spot-fixing is very dangerous for the game of cricket. This has been a tough day for me and the team and I am deeply distressed," Dravid said in a statement after the disgraceful incident.
The Rajasthan Royals? skipper further said that his players were gutted to think their impressive show in the ongoing season six of the lucrative T20 league may have been affected on account of the alleged corruption of these three players.
"The players and people around the team are hurting. Our players are devastated that our performances may have been affected, as they have a desire to win that has been evident throughout the tournament," said the distressed Rajasthan skipper, adding that they, as a team, have a zero tolerance view of the entire situation.
Recent spot-fixing saga can raise a few eyebrows, which is hurting Dravid and his players. However, Dravid, said that as a captain his job is to make sure that the team continues playing well, like they have been doing in the tournament so far.
"For me as a captain and leader, I have to focus on ensuring the team fulfil their enormous potential and continue to play in the Rajasthan Royals way," said the 40-year-old former Indian batting stalwart.
The Rajasthan based IPL franchise has made a strong comeback this season, remaining among the top three throughout the tournament, and with 10 wins from 15 games, they have been almost assured a spot in the playoffs.
